Task Bar Cube: Getting Started on Steam
Installing and starting Task Bar Cube — the Steam setup, your first taskbar cube, the opening loop of characters, pets and equipment, and what to do in the first hour.
Task Bar Cube went free on Steam on October 25, 2026, and the setup-to-first-grind path is short. Here is the first hour, done right.
Install and Launch
Grab it from Steam (free, DarkRook Interactive). Launch it once and the cube appears — that small square in your taskbar is the game running. From here on, the cube grinds whether you watch or not.
The First Hour: Watch One Full Loop
Resist managing immediately. Let the cube run a full grind cycle and watch what it does: characters fight, pets assist, loot accrues. The idle contract is that the game makes progress without you — your first hour's real job is learning what progress looks like, so you know what to allocate later.
Your First Allocations
When you do open it up, three early moves matter most: feed your primary character (one main pushed far beats three pushed evenly — the progression guide covers why), pair your pet to that main (pet boosts compound on a single carry), and equip your best rares as they drop — the equipment guide covers the rarity chase. Everything else is polish.
Living With the Cube
The taskbar form factor has one etiquette note: the cube is designed to be ignorable. Shrink it during focus work, expand it at natural breaks, and let full-screen mode handle real management sessions. Players who try to actively play an idle game burn out; players who check in like watering a plant keep it running for months. That rhythm — plus the core guide for the systems underneath — is the whole game.
